Gumboots Dance Troupe, Oxford
http://groupspaces.com/gumboots/
Gumboot dancing originated in the gold mines of South Africa. The mines were often flooded, so to protect their feet, mine workers wore gumboots (i.e., rubber mining boots). At the end of their shift, these mine workers, who came from all over southern Africa, would entertain themselves by slapping their boots and combining it with their traditional dances. And so gumboot dancing was born!
