Find out more about your Student Union team

The Executive are responsible for the day to day running of the Student Union and is made up of 7 full-time sabbatical officers, 10 part-time undergraduates and 4 part-time graduates. Each has one or more areas of specific responsibility within OUSU, relating to representation, campaigns and committees or the services we offer our students.

We also have a full-time sabbatical Business Manager, responsible for raising money for the Student Union through advertising in our publications, and through our Zoo club nights at clubs throughout Oxford. The Business Manager is also the Managing Director of Oxford Student Services Limited, or OSSL. OSSL is the company run by OUSU to manage our commercial operations.

These sabbatical officers and current students are aided by our General Manager, and a number of office staff.

Full Time Officers

The Full Time Officers are either recent Oxford graduates or students who have taken time out of their studies to work in OUSU. The seven member team covers all the areas of representation, campaigning, welfare and services that OUSU provides.

President - Martin McCluskey

Martin McCluskey

Martin’s job covers, in one form or another, all of the work that OUSU does. It is his job to ensure that OUSU is working in a co-ordinated way. He is there to assist all the members of the Executive in any way they need to get OUSU’s work done. He has overall responsibility for co-ordinating OUSU’s campaign strategy and its media coverage, and is also in charge of OUSU’s relationship with JCRs, MCRs, other Student Unions (notably Oxford Brookes and Cambridge) and the NUS. His other duties include interpreting the Constitution and organising meetings of OUSU council and attending many university committees.

Martin is originally from Greenock in Scotland and studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at St. Hugh's College. He came to OUSU through involvement in his JCR (first as OUSU Rep, then as President) and also as the Co-Chair of OUSU's Rent Campaign, fighting for a fairer deal on Oxford college accomodation charges. You can get in touch with him by emailing president@ousu.org. You can read his blog here or view his Facebook profile here.

Rich's involvement with OUSU started while working on the editorial team of the Oxford Student, followed by stints working on the other publications produced by OUSU and work at ZOO nights. Rich can be contacted on finance@ousu.org.

Vice President (Welfare and Equal Opportunities) - Louise Randall

Louise Randall

Louise is available at any time to see individuals who have an issue they would like to discuss, on any topic. She provides resources, advice and training sessions for all students involved in the welfare network across the University. OUSU Welfare aims to help create a University where all students can thrive in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. Louise also works to ensure that factors such as race, sexuality and disabilities need not affect anyone’s Oxford career. The Vice President (Welfare and Equal Opps) is the head of the Student Advice Service (SAS).

Louise is originally from Norfolk, and came to Oxford in 2004 to study Theology at Lady Margaret Hall. During her time at LMH she was the JCR Welfare Officer and there developed her love for all things welfare, from cake to condoms and confidentiality. You can email her at welfare@ousu.org and you can read her blog here.

Vice President (Women) - Hannah Roe

Hannah Roe

Women are under-represented at Oxford, so it is Hannah’s job to see that the issues that primarily affect them aren’t neglected. She works with various committees and the University to ensure that women’s points of view are made clear and are adequately represented. Hannah is also responsible for running the Safety Bus scheme jointly with Oxford Brookes.

Hannah is originally from York, though she spent part of her childhood in Japan. She read PPE at Balliol College, where she was also the JCR Women's Officer. After organising events such as a Women's DJ Workshop, Hannah became a Co-Chair of OUSU Women's Campaign where she became involved in issues relating to women's welfare and representation. Interested in working on issues to do with women's representation and involvement in Oxford in areas beyond the world of dj-ing at Bops, Hannah ran for VP Women. Hannah can be contacted at women@ousu.org

Vice President (Graduates) - Ingrid Frater

Ingrid FraterIngrid’s job is to represent, advise and provide services for all graduate, international, and mature students. She sits on many committees, including Educational Policy and Standards Committee, Conference of Colleges Graduate Committee, and Curators of the University Libraries and works as part of OUSU’s Student Advice Service (SAS). She helps coordinate the work of MCR or GCR Presidents, by chairing Presidents’ Committee, and organises and chairs Post Graduate Assembly (PGA). Ingrid also runs a variety of social events for graduate, international and mature students.

Ingrid has lived in several places across England and Scotland, but calls Durham home. She studied History at St. Hugh's College and then completed a PGCE at St. Hugh's, so is now a trained secondary school history teacher - she's planning to go back to teaching after this year. Having experienced life here as an undergraduate and a graduate, and having been a JCR VP, Ingrid knows a lot about being a student at Oxford and about postgraduate-specific needs. You can email her at graduates@ousu.org and you can read her blog here.

Vice President (Access and Academic Affairs) - James Lamming

James Lamming

James has responsibility for supporting the work of the Target Schools Scheme and ensuring that the University has an admissions procedure that is fair and transparent. As a member of the Student Advice Service, James can provide help and representation to students called before their Tutorial Boards or the Proctors.

James comes from a little village called Walberton in West Sussex and studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Merton College. As the JCR Access Rep in his first year, and the JCR President in his second year, James has acquired lots of experience encouraging applications to Oxford, representing other students and working with OUSU. You can get in touch with him by emailing access@ousu.org and read his blog here.
