Sabbatical Officers
Martha Mackenzie, President
president@ousu.org
Prior to becoming OUSU President, Martha studied History and politics at St John's, where she was JCR President. She is originally from Scotland but has spent most of her life living in South-West London where she attended Richmond upon Thames College before coming up to Oxford. Now President of OUSU, her job is to head the Student Union and improve the student experience for every student at Oxford. She is a big Chelsea fan despite, to her eternal shame, being hopeless at playing football!
Yuan Yang, Vice-President (Women)
women@ousu.org
Yuan studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Balliol College. Before that, she lived in many different places in China, Manchester and Leeds, and is proud to be from "up North". She was JCR Affiliations Officer in her 1st year, and then became Women's Campaign Officer in her 2nd year after a friend persuaded her to run - she has never looked back! In her role as Vice-President for Women, she tackles issues pertinent to gender equality, such as sexual violence, career development, and political involvement. Her hobbies include going climbing and trying not to fall off walls.
Jim O'Connell, Vice President (Graduates)
graduates@ousu.org
Jim qualified as a teacher having completed a PGCE at the Department of Education in the 2010-2011 academic year. Before that, he was an undergraduate at Univ. Jim was persuaded to run after seeing that things at Oxford often run more smoothly for undergraduates than graduates. As VP (Graduates), he is responsible for representing graduate students' interests to the University, making sure the University is doing anything it can to focus on improving graduate education and funding at Oxford. Originally from New Zealand, Jim spends his weekends yelling at the TV whenever the All Blacks or Canterbury are playing.
Seb Baird, Vice-President (Welfare & Equal Opportunities)
welfare@ousu.org
Seb Baird is Vice President for Welfare and Equal Opportunities, having read History and Politics at Corpus Christi where he was a Welfare Officer and JCR President. He is now responsible for OUSU's activities on welfare and equality, including representation within the university and supporting common rooms. He is also the manager of OUSU's independent and impartial Student Advice Service. In his free time, Seb enjoys cooking, listening to jazz and following England's cricket team.
