OUSU Environment and Ethics Committee
OUSU website page for the E&E committee. Take a look to see what campaigns we've got on, and who's in charge.
The OUSU Environment and Ethics Committee is one of the most active and popular campaigning groups in Oxford. We meet every Tuesday at 5.30pm in the OUSU offices to work on college, university, Oxford and nationwide campaigns. Our webspace here will soon be fully functional, but in the meantime you can visit our outgoing site at http://ousuenvironmentcommittee.googlepages.com. This website provides our resources such as sample motions, facts, and links. The campaign details for everything we do are here.

The stall went off without a hitch, and we collected about 200 signatures for the petition. The social is scheduled for Tuesday, 6pm at Pizza Express.

Half our materials for our stall were locked away in the OUSU building, so we've postponed the stall until Sunday 24/02/08. Mikki kindly volunteered to be our secretary last week and was duly elected. Our plastic bag sculpture took the form of... a very big plastic bag. No it hasn't attracted any strange looks or comments...

Our plastic bag/excess packaging campaign has taken off, and we're on the way to getting stalls set up for saturday of 5th week in the city. Congrats to Mikki, our new secretary and Julia our new Recycling officer.

Biodiversity:
This term we're continuing to focus on getting colleges to stop serving unsustainably caught fish in hall. The motivation behind this is that most of the fish served in Britain is either from depleted stocks or endangered species. Watch out for Tuna (all species are endangered), North Atlantic cod and scampi in particular.Energy:
Taking inspiration from the Carbon Trust, we're bringing their 'Switch it Off' campaign to Oxford. We've secured sponsorship for over 2000 beermats to be made carrying eco-friendly encouragement. Coming soon to a college bar near you.Ethics:
This term we're bringing a motion to OUSU council to support a ban on the testing of household products on animals. These tests are unnecessary, as a plethora of ingredients have been regarded as safe by the government. Furthermore, health and safety laws don't require animal testing. The motion comes to council at 2pm on friday of fifth week. See the OUSU home page for the venue.Recycling:
In the wonderful world of recycling we continue our uphill struggle to expand all recycling programs (now including compost, well its sort of recycling isn't it?) We've been in a lot of contact with Lili Briggs, the university sustainability officer and we've come up with lots of nifty ideas like having a box for plastic bags in the porters lodge to help share out used ones. Also, we have been contacted by Elizabeth Von Hoff, who works for the recycling dept. of Oxford City Council. Together we hope to compile a map f college recycling facilities.Coming Soon:
