Frequently Asked Questions about working as a steward at this year's Fair
Who can work as a steward at the Fair?
Any returning student at Oxford University can apply to work as a steward at Freshers' Fair.
Is it paid work?
No, you will not be paid a salary for your work as a steward. However, for every shift worked you will receive the following benefits:
-
Free steward's t-shirt
-
Free entry to the Fair
-
Free entry to any two ZOO nights of your choice during Michaelmas term
In addition, we will be serving lunch every day and stewards will receive a free baguette either after their morning shift or when they arrive to do an afternoon shift.
How will the free club tickets work?
Every time you work a shift, you will receive two vouchers that you can use to get free entry at any ZOO night during Michaelmas 2007. Just show your voucher at the door and you'll get in for free.
What does the job involve?
You will be responsible for ensuring that the flow of visitors through the Fair remains safe and orderly by directing visitors through the Exam Schools and answering their questions. Additionally, stewards working in rooms with stalls will be responsible for ensuring that the Stallholder Regulations are being adhered to, and reporting any problems to the senior stewards.
When is work available?
There are two shifts a day on Wednesday 3, Thursday 4 and Friday 5 October. Work will normally be from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, and then from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm, but this may change from day to day. We will provide more information here closer to the Fair.
What's the briefing meeting?
There will be a meeting to explain procedures on Monday 1 October, which all stewards must attend. The time will be announced closer to the Fair.
Is the briefing meeting compulsory?

Can I work part of a shift?
