The Student Advice Service
The Student Advice Service is an information and advice service consisting of four sabbatical officers and OUSU's Student Advisors. You can contact us confidentially and privately. We deal with anything from accommodation to problems with your supervisor, mental health, and changing course. To get in contact, email advice@ousu.org or go to www.ousu.org/welfare/SAS/.

If you've used the service, we'd like to hear your feedback. It's anonymous and easy - email welfare@ousu.org with any questions.

Idea of a University

The Idea of a University in the 21st Century. In Michaelmas Term 2011 and Hilary Term 2012, Oxford is running a unique project to investigate learning and teaching in the University today.

The project is run by OUSU together with the University Assessor Dr. Teresa Morgan, and involves students, research and teaching staff at every level and in every subject.

What is the relationship between students and teachers in today's universities?

Should students think of themselves as consumers of education, investors in education, seekers, partners, initiates, takers-up of a baton or challengers of an established order?

Are teachers passing on what they know, showing a process of discovery, forming minds, replicating a ruling class, providing a service or equipping revolutionaries?

Does what we learn and teach function primarily as an information set, a tool box, a social maker or a shibboleth?

We want to hear YOUR views!

Fill in the online questionnaire at www.surveymonkey.com/ideaofauniversity

Come to the Exam Schools every Thursday at 5pm, where speakers from undergraduates to professors and every subject from Chemistry to Classics will discuss what they think university education is all about. See here for the first few speakers and topics.

Have a look at the online dossier of readings in the history and theory of teaching and learning.

Follow Teresa Morgan ('Deskale') on Twitter, asking questions about education, universities and why we are all here.

Look out for more information about films, discussion groups and parties!
