OUSU to Relaunch and Expand Oxford Student Scholarship Scheme
OUSU is set to relaunch and expand it's Oxford Student Scholarship scheme which seeks to provide scholarships for students from Low Income Countries
OUSU’s Oxford Student Scholarship Scheme, which has been running for a number of years with the support of the University of Oxford’s International Office, is set to continue for another year under a new name – “Reach Oxford”.
The Scheme aims to provide students from Low Income Countries with funding in order that they can take up their place at the University, with view to returning to their country and assisting in its further development.
In recent years, a number of scholars have been placed at Colleges following a rigorous selection procedure that brings together members of the University, representatives of the academic body and elected representatives from the Student Union.
Martin McCluskey, OUSU President, said: “The Oxford Student Scholarship Scheme – or Reach Oxford as it will hopefully soon be known – is an ambitious project created by OUSU to give highly able students from Low Income Countries the benefit of an oxford education. In recent years, we’ve had about six colleges each year accepting applicants, and we hope to see this grow.”
The Student Union hopes to further expand the scheme with the help of the University’s International Office by seeking external donations and increasing its visibility in the University.
Ingrid Frater, OUSU Vice President (Graduates), responsible for International students, said: “It’s important that the international student community at Oxford is diverse. Reach Oxford is an attempt to ensure that the University is open to all international students with high academic potential – even those from the lowest income countries.”
