Oxford Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre

The Oxford Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre is staffed Sunday 6 pm–8.30 pm, Monday and Thursday 6.30 pm–9 pm. At all other times an answerphone system is in operation. They offer free and confidential support by listening to and talking with women on the phone or meeting with them. They also offer legal and medical information and have a number of doctors and solicitors who they can consult, as well as a database of counsellors experienced in working with sexual abuse survivors. They can accompany women to the police station or court if they wish charges to be brought. Their involvement depends entirely on what the individual wants. Alternatively, a 24 hour service operates in London.

Reporting to the Police

If you want to report sexual harassment, sexual assault or rape to Thames Valley Police in Oxford, there are two different ways that you can do it.

If the incident is ongoing or recent, you can call 999. The Police will then send an Officer to where you are. When you come to reporting the incident more fully, you will go to a dedicated, non police station location where you will be interviewed by specially trained Police Officers and see relevant medical personnel where necessary.

If you are reporting an historical offence, i.e. over 7 days old and there is no possibility of forensic evidence and no current risk to you, call the 24-hour  Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.

When you call the non-emergency number, you will be asked to give brief details. A meeting will then be arranged for you with specially trained police officers at a dedicated, non police station location, with relevant medical personnel where appropriate.

Regardless of how, where or when a sexual offence is reported, it will be dealt with in a professional and compassionate manner with due regard to your needs as a victim.
